The Forest Floor

Elite Mineral Substrate

All-mineral. Zero organic fillers. Engineered to replicate the tropical volcanic forest floor your plants evolved in.

Built around Cation Exchange Capacity, mycorrhizal biology, and permanent particle architecture — not bark, not peat, not coco. A substrate that never compacts, never breaks down, and delivers live fungal biology to your roots from the moment you plant.

Anchored to pH 5.8–6.5. Inoculated with five endomycorrhizal strains. Grower-controlled nutrition. This is what serious collectors have been waiting for.

8 Dry Quarts · Ships August 8, 2026

Alocasia · Anthurium · Begonia · Monstera · Philodendron

12
Mineral Components

Each selected to replicate a specific function of the tropical volcanic forest floor. Nothing added without purpose.

5
Mycorrhizal Strains

Live endomycorrhizal biology inoculated per bag before sealing. Root colonization begins the moment you plant.

0
Organic Fillers

No bark. No peat. No coco. No breakdown. Permanent particle architecture that holds its structure indefinitely.

Four ways to grow.

01

Standalone Substrate

Fill your pot entirely with EMS. No mixing required. Use as a complete growing medium for any rare tropical. Water freely — the mineral structure drains and aerates automatically.

02

Blend Method

Incorporate EMS into your existing substrate to improve drainage, aeration, and CEC. Start at 30–50% EMS by volume. Works with any existing substrate.

03

Semi-Hydro Setup

Use EMS in passive hydro grows with a standing reservoir. pH stays anchored at 5.8–6.5. Zeolite buffers ammonium spikes. Designed for semi-hydro from the start.

04

The Cake Method

Fill a cylinder with EMS, top with sphagnum moss. Plant into the moss layer. Lower roots reach toward moisture. Upper roots stay aerated. Ideal for aroids that love humidity at the crown.

Built for collectors of rare tropicals.

Alocasia

Fast-draining mineral structure prevents the rot that kills rare Alocasia in organic mixes.

Anthurium

Anchored pH and high CEC keep nutrients available without over-fertilization.

Begonia

Airy mineral structure prevents crown rot in both rhizomatous and cane varieties.

Monstera

Support Albo, Thai Constellation, and rare Monstera with a substrate that never compacts.

Philodendron

From gloriosum to Melanochrysum — the aeration and biology rare Philodendron roots demand.

Questions collectors ask.

What is Elite Mineral Substrate?

Elite Mineral Substrate (EMS) is an all-mineral growing medium for rare tropical plants. Twelve mineral components, five live endomycorrhizal strains, zero organic fillers. It replicates the volcanic forest floor rare aroids evolved in — and it never breaks down.

What plants is EMS built for?

Rare aroids and collector tropicals: Alocasia, Anthurium, Monstera, Philodendron, and rhizomatous and cane Begonias. If a plant is prone to root rot in organic mixes, it is a candidate for mineral substrate.

Can I use EMS for semi-hydro or passive hydroponics?

Yes. EMS is designed for semi-hydro from the start. pH stays anchored at 5.8–6.5 in a standing reservoir, and zeolite buffers ammonium spikes during aggressive feeding.

How is a mineral substrate different from an aroid mix or coco coir?

Organic mixes decompose. Bark, peat, and coco break down, compact, and suffocate roots — forcing repot cycles and inviting rot. A mineral substrate holds its particle structure indefinitely: permanent aeration, calibrated drainage, and nutrient delivery controlled by the grower, not by decay.

Do I need to fertilize plants growing in EMS?

Yes — and that is the point. EMS puts nutrition under grower control. High cation exchange capacity holds liquid fertilizer at the root zone and releases it on demand, so you can feed aggressively without salt burn.

Does EMS wear out or need replacing like potting soil?

The mineral structure does not decompose. Unlike organic media, there is no breakdown clock. Refresh at repotting if you choose — not because the substrate failed.
